Pkr Polls 100k Members Expected To Vote Online
More than 100,000 PKR members are expected to vote online in the party’s election scheduled for this May.
PKR Election Committee (JPP) chairperson Dr Zaliha Mustafa (above) said that the target was based on the party's previous election voting trends.
“In every party election, there has been a 6 percent increase in terms of turnout.
“So, if we follow the same trend, the number expected to vote in this election is around 300,000.
“Of these, we are expecting online voters to be around 30 percent, which is about 100,000,” she told Malaysiakini.
PKR will hold party elections for the first time since the Sheraton Move, which saw the party lose power at the federal level along with the Pakatan Harapan government.
More than 1.2 million party members have the right to vote online or physically, and this is believed to be the first time a political party has implemented the dual option in Malaysia.
Since 2010, PKR has adopted a one-member, one-vote system to vote for the Central Leadership Council and branch levels.
Meanwhile, Zaliha said she was confident that the number of voters choosing to vote online would increase.
“The party’s target is to introduce online voting. As of April 8, nearly 50,000 party members have registered with the Adil application.
“Of these, more than 30,000 have already been approved. Meanwhile, 20,000 are waiting for the verification process before being approved,” she said.
“Registration is still low. There are several reasons. Among them, the Johor state election clashed with the launch of the Adil application in March.
“We have also appointed coordinators in each state to increase the number of online registrations,” he added.
For the record, the party has extended the online voter registration deadline from April 8 to April 21. - Mkini
