Picking The Right Team Soccer And Politics
I DIDN'T get the chance to watch Euro and Copa America soccer finals. I was overpowered by fatigue.
However, not surprisingly when England and Brazil lost to Italy and Argentina respectively. The Wembley and Maracana stadiums saw how the hosts succumbed to the underdogs although both champions did not make it much into the pundits' list.
But that is football. Home ground doesn't guarantee you anything if you play the wrong tactic or being complacent as favorites.
I guess it applies to politics too. You may find comfort in the team you picked, especially the new one. When you left your old team for money and luxury, all eyes will weigh you (in politics). However in football, its usual to see players being offered a lucrative amount of money for their transfer. The player and the former team both will benefit.
However, in politics, party hopping is deplorable. When your present party is sidelined by the government and you are offered position and money, your decision to jump ship is an act of traitor, not only to the party itself but the electorates. You betray them for money.
They chose you to represent them under the former party, and the money you got to join the new party is considered dirty and filthy.
Worse when when you are appointed as a minister of GLC chairman without leaving the party but you go on tarnishing it with your unscrupulous statements against the leadership and the party.
This is exactly what Umno president Zahid Hamidi is going through, facing dissension from some of his 'good friends' in the party, especially the person whom he gave party position even though the later lost in the party election.
His friends are now turning into nemesis, betraying not only him but the party, the constitution and the members.
When Zahid and and the Supreme Council decided to leave Perikatan Nasional government, they took to social and mainstream media to lambast him by degrading their party's decision. Where and what are they?
Most are still in the government as ministers, GLC chairmen or pro-PN regime. It is unfortunate for Zahid for being the only party president thus far not becoming a prime minister and is facing political persecution at two courts.
Had BN won the 2018 GE14 general election and Zahid became PM, this hardship won't befall him or the party.
Some say he will get through while not few in Umno described it as the end of the road for him. Some Members of Parliament are now against the MT decision, few are with him while a handful is undecided.
Hello! Don't write him off. More and more MPs are giving their nod to the decision thus far. About 20 out of 38 thus far. How many does PN-led Muhyiddin has? Is it 113? Come July 26 when the Parliament reconvene, some will feel the sweat running down their necks.
The razor-thin majority is easy to crumble. With 20 against, it will leave them with 93. Will PN resort to buying support from the Opposition MPs?
Maybe. I was made to understand how the Bersatu-led PN was giving RM300,000 to each and everyone of them apart from the RM30,000 announced as an aid to all MPs during this Covid-19 pandemic. Some Umno MPs are getting the RM300,000 too for supporting Muhyiddin who should start worrying about his Cabinet seat.
Never write off Zahid Hamidi. He seldom comes out publicly by making an allegation after another. Knowing him, he has survived few torrid era in politics and this one is bringing him closer to the people. Since PN government has failed the people, they now realised mistakes for chosing PH and PN.
Its Zahid's call now. He needs to tighten the screws by getting rid of the rotten materials. Hope he understands. As to whether he likes me or not, or whether he listens to me or not, it doesn't matter. What matters most is to see Umno regains its strength.
Time will tell. To his detractors, continue watching the soccer games. Nothing's wrong if you pick the wrong team but picking a wrong political side will be detrimental to you. Mark my words!
