Perfect 5 0 Score For Klia Langkawi Airport In Global Service Quality Awards
Kuala Lumpur International Airport won the best airport award in the 40 million passengers per annum category.PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Langkawi International Airport (LIA) have been named as among the world’s best airports for 2021.
They emerged tops in their categories in a global airport service quality (ASQ) survey by Airports Council International (ACI).
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd said KLIA and LIA achieved a perfect score of 5.0 in the categories serving over 40 million passengers per annum, and two to five million passengers per annum, respectively.
“ASQ benchmarks the world’s best airports in terms of overall passenger satisfaction for terminal safety, facilities, services and cleanliness.
“This recent industry accolade by a global body will give added impetus to Malaysia Airports to continue maintaining high service standards, especially in view of the expected increase in passenger movements after Malaysia’s borders reopen on April 1,” it said in a statement today.
Malaysia Airports said although KLIA and LIA had achieved high scores in 2020, they were still 0.02 points shy of a perfect score.
“In 2021, the team had put in tremendous effort to close this gap because as an airport operator, we cannot compromise on operational efficiency and service standards, more so as we are expecting an influx of international passengers into the country from next month,” its managing director, Iskandar Mizal Mahmood, said.
It also said a total of 4.66 million passenger movements were recorded in February, of which 2.54 million (or 55%) were contributed by its local network of airports and 2.12 million (45%) by its Turkish asset, Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (ISG).
As for Malaysia, it said, domestic passenger traffic movements stood at 2.27 million and international travel at 0.28 million. ISG registered 1.09 million domestic and 1.03 million international travellers.
Malaysia Airports said it had started introducing new routes on top of resuming the previous ones.
It said Scoot had introduced the Singapore-Miri twice-weekly flights on top of its current Singapore-Kuching three-times-weekly flights.
Firefly was reinstating its jet operations in April from its new hub at the Penang International Airport to Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
In view of the border reopening, new vaccinated travel lane (VTL) programmes, including Kuala Lumpur-Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur-Pattaya and Kuala Lumpur-Cambodia, commenced on March 15. Penang-Singapore flights resumed on March 16.
As for cargo operations, the group recorded a 17.4% increase in total tonnage last month compared with the same period last year. This involved movement of 86,768 tonnes of cargo in Malaysia and Turkey.
Malaysia Airports said Kargo Xpress started out at KLIA last June and operated two local cargo flights to Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
Now, it offers daily flights to Hong Kong as a result of demand for air cargo driven by e-commerce, postal services, transshipment and industries requiring high-value logistics services. - FMT
