Perak Pas Chief Apologises For Linking Nga To Guan Gong Festival
Perak PAS chief Razman Zakaria has issued a formal apology to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.
This is for falsely linking the latter to a procession in Teluk Intan in October where delegates from China waved the Chinese national flag.
“I admit that the allegations are false and completely unfounded.
“I apologise without reservations to Nga for any suffering and humiliation caused by the allegation,” he said in his letter of apology, which was also carried on Perak PAS’ social media channels.
He said he also removed the offending press release dated Oct 25 and pledged never to repeat the allegations against Nga.
The offending statement was issued a day after the Teluk Intan leg of the Malaysia International Guan Gong Cultural Festival was held on Oct 24.
In the statement, Razman claimed Nga officiated the event and demanded him to be investigated under the National Emblems (Control of Display) Act 1949 for the public display of foreign national emblems.
He also claimed the flags were an act of provocation that could jeopardise Malaysia’s sovereignty and harmony.
Nga, who is the local MP at the event’s venue, said he was at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur at the time of the event and instructed his officer to lodge a police report against Razman.
“I was having a meeting in Kuala Lumpur on that day. How can I be at two places at the correct time? This is clearly a lie.
“Following this, he accused us of endorsing (the event). We did not even organise the event. This is clearly slanderous,” Nga said.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor MingIn his letter of apology today, Razman conceded there was a mix-up with another event that Nga officiated on Sept 13 in Teluk Intan, which was a Mid-Autum Festival celebration.
“After studying the sources of information, it is clear Nga was not at the controversial procession,” he said.
Last week, Razman also apologised to Perak Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad.
That was for his speech at a counter-demonstration against the Guan Gong festival, where he made remarks that Saarani considered “rude”. - Mkini
