Perak Exco Member Paul Yong Unhappy With Cops Handling Of Rape Probe
Perak executive council member Paul Yong has lashed out at the police for not being professional with the investigation of his rape case.
When met outside the Sessions Court here after claiming trial to the case, Yong said the police had failed to investigate the case thoroughly, causing him to be charged on Friday (Aug 23).
“I trusted the police’s professionalism, but I am unhappy with the investigating officer.
“I have given my full cooperation even before when I was charged, and I didn’t even make any comments as requested by them.
“If the police had investigated this case professionally, I wouldn’t have been charged today,” he added.
Yong also lamented that the investigation papers had also been returned to the police by the Attorney General three times.
“They also did not call me to get further statements, which they should do and this is a big mistake.
“They have only taken statement from one side.
“The investigation should have been thorough and fair,” he added.
Yong also said he would continue his duty as the state exco member.
“Of course, I didn’t do anything. I am not a criminal,” he added.
Yong, who is Tronoh assemblyman, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read out under Section 376 of the Penal Code at the Sessions Court here on Friday (Aug 23).
According to the charge sheet, Yong had allegedly committed the act in a room at the top floor of his house in Meru Desa Park on July 7, between 8.15pm and 9.15pm.
On July 8, a 23-year-old maid lodged a police report alleging that she was raped by Yong – her employer – at his house in Meru.
Yong, who is in charge of the state Housing, Local Government, Public Transport, Non-Islamic and Village Affairs Committee, has denied any wrongdoing.
Separately, Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has urged Yong to go on leave until his rape trial is completed.
