Perak Amanah Raises Concerns On Pn Candidate S False Credentials

AYER KUNING POLLS | Perak Amanah has raised concerns surrounding allegations that Perikatan Nasional candidate Abd Muhaimin Malek had deceived state religious authorities to obtain credentials (tauliah) to teach and preach Islam.
ADSIn a statement today, Amanah state chairperson Asmuni Awi said the party takes the allegation seriously, claiming the candidate’s action not only insulted religious institutions but also amounted to defying the Perak sultan, the head of Islam in the state.
“Even more disappointing is the candidate’s refusal to explain despite this involving questions of integrity and basic eligibility to lead,” Asmuni said.
Muhaimin (above), a headmaster at a state religious school, reportedly declined comments after the official nominations yesterday.
He also declined to comment on the matter when pressed by the media today, adding PN will provide answers "if the time comes".
"If it's about this (credentials) issue, I don't want to give any comments.
"I'll only comment if you want to ask me about my hopes for the rakyat," he said briefly when met by Malaysiakini prior to his walkabout around the Kampung Raya area in Tapah, Perak.
In Perak, religious accreditation or tauliah is handled by the state Mufti Department through a formal process that includes written tests, interviews and background screening, with final approval granted only with the sultan’s consent.
Perak Amanah chairperson Asmuni Awi“Any attempt to lie in this process not only tarnishes the image of the religious institutions but also constitutes an insult to the royal institution and a form of treason against the sultan’s decree,” added Asmuni.
According to Asmuni, regulations prohibit individuals holding political positions or contesting in elections from obtaining such accreditation.
“If this allegation is true, it clearly shows the candidate obtained the tauliah illegally and misled the religious authorities, in clear violation of established rules,” he said.
Betrayal of trust
The Amanah leader also pointed out that the Perak sultan had previously reprimanded those who misuse religious institutions and places of worship for partisan political gain.
ADS“Such actions defile the sanctity of mosques and surau and reflect a lack of respect for the highest authority in the state,” he said.
He added that this behaviour amounts to a betrayal of public trust, a breach of syariah law and an affront to the constitutional monarchy.
Asmuni urged the state religious authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and take firm action if the allegations are proven.
“The people of Ayer Kuning deserve a leader with integrity, who respects the state’s institutions,” he said. - Mkini
