People Trying Their Luck To Get Vaccinated Add To Overcrowding At Wtc Task Force

Overcrowding at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) vaccination centre today was due in part to people who were not registered for the AstraZeneca vaccine "trying their luck", said the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).
This was in addition to those who were supposed to be vaccinated today arriving far ahead of their appointment time.
"For example, there were instances of arrivals at 2pm for 6pm vaccination appointments.
"There were also a significant number of people who decided to “try their luck” by walking in for appointments, contributing to even more congestion," the CITF said in a statement.
About 8,100 people were scheduled to get vaccinated today at the WTCKL - previously known as the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).
Large crowds were seen gathering outside the doors of the trade centre waiting for their appointments.
The situation was more organised indoors, although Malaysiakini's observations found that the high volume of people getting vaccinated led to long queues.



One couple whose appointments were at 3.30pm only got their AstraZeneca shots at almost 5pm.

De facto Covid-19 vaccination minister Khairy Jamaluddin was also seen assisting at the registration counter.
According to an aide, the minister was helping to register those with appointments for over three hours.



To avoid future overcrowding, the CITF advised those getting vaccinated to arrive 15 to 30 minutes earlier than their appointment, and not any earlier.

Registration for the AstraZeneca vaccine was done on a voluntary basis after concerns were raised about rare complications such as blood clots. - Mkini
