Between 6am and 8am, the Fire and Rescue Department received seven emergency calls involving fallen trees, some of which crashed onto electrical cables and vehicles.
State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis said affected locations included Paya Terubong, near Sungai Ara Camp in Bayan Lepas, Jalan Bukit Lama, Jalan Sungai Nipah in Balik Pulau, Jalan Bukit Sardon, Taman Lip Sin and near SMK Seri Balik Pulau on the island.
A similar incident was also reported on the mainland, in Teluk Air Tawar, Butterworth.
"Firemen were dispatched promptly to all locations. Personnel carried out tree-cutting, removal and road-clearing operations to restore traffic flow and ensure public safety," John said in a statement.
He added that no casualties or injuries were reported, and all affected areas have since been declared safe following cleanup efforts.
"The incidents were caused by intense rainfall and strong winds that swept across several districts during the early morning hours," he said.
Meanwhile, the Civil Defence Force reported that a tree fell onto a moving car near Sungai Ara Camp.
"Two female victims were unharmed and later taken home by their husbands," it said. -NST
