Penang Resumes 8 Direct Flights To Destinations In Southeast Asia Taiwan

(Bernama pic)GEORGE TOWN: Penang has resumed eight international direct flight routes, including to several destinations in Indonesia and Thailand, as of May 30, the state assembly was told today.
State tourism and creative economy committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the flights were to the Jakarta International Airport, Juanda International Airport and Kualanamu International Airport all of which are in Indonesia; the Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang International Airport in Thailand; Taoyuan International Airport (Taiwan), Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Vietnam), and Singapore’s Changi Airport.
These routes are crucial to the state and are the ‘backbone’ of Penang’s tourism industry.”
Yeoh said the state government was trying to resume direct flights to the Penang International Airport (PIA) from the Middle East and Turkey, where Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines and Emirates Airlines operate.
By linking PIA to those three airlines, he said the state would be able to woo tourists from the US, Europe and the Middle East – all of whom had high purchasing power and tended to visit a state for a long time, ranging from a couple of weeks to a month.
He also said the state government was currently planning to promote Penang to Middle Eastern countries.
It has also come up with a Muslim Travel Guide in Arabic, which was launched at the Dubai Expo and Arabian Travel Market.
“It was well received by the Middle Eastern tourist market.”
Meanwhile, state youth and sports committee chairman Soon Lip Chee revealed that the state government planned to build its first esports training academy, in Komtar tower, for youths in the state. - FMT
