Penang Exco Submits Names Of Five Bully Doctors To Kj
State Health Committee chairman Dr Norlela Ariffin has submitted the names of five alleged “bully doctors” attached to the Penang Hospital to the Health Ministry. -NSTP/DANIAL SAADGEORGE TOWN: State Health Committee chairman Dr Norlela Ariffin has submitted the names of five alleged "bully doctors" attached to the Penang Hospital to the Health Ministry.
She said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had since replied to her information.
"I sent the names and departments of five alleged bully doctors at the Penang Hospital for the minister to check.
"And YB (Yang Berhormat) KJ had replied," she said.
Norlela, who described the five as the "most famous toxic ones" said the others may not be so bad as yet.
Norlela, however, said the five names were not linked to the death of a houseman recently.
"The names (submitted) are not about that particular death because the case is still under investigation.
"(It is just that) I want to inform that I have also submitted five names since I read that the health exco of other states also submitted names to the Health Minister," she added.
On April 17, a 25-year-old houseman attached to the Penang Hospital died following a fall from his rented unit of an apartment at Jalan Datuk Keramat here.
The houseman had only been posted to the Penang Hospital on April 4.
Police have not ruled out the possibility of the case being reclassified if fresh evidence comes to light.
For now, the death is classified as sudden death.
Lawmakers in the state, including Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, had urged the Health Ministry to set up a special committee to probe the death of the houseman.
They had said that the special inquiry committee was important to identify the cause of the incident and to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in the future involving trainee doctors nationwide.
This is the second death involving houseman attached to the Penang Hospital in less than two years.
On May 6, Khairy had reportedly said that the ministry would set up an independent task force to probe claims of the prevalence of a bullying culture within its departments and the death of a houseman last month. - NST
