Penang Cm Says Meeting With Muhyiddin Called Off

Chow Kon Yeow and Abang Johari Openg are said to have decided against attending the meeting after the decision not to declare a state of emergency.GEORGE TOWN: Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said this evening that a meeting of state leaders with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin tomorrow has been cancelled.
News of the cancellation came amid reports of a flurry of VIP cars arriving at Muhyiddin’s residence in Bukit Damansara this evening.
Sarawak chief minister Abang Johari Openg is also believed to have cancelled his trip to Kuala Lumpur for the 9.30am meeting, which was called by Muhyiddin soon after the end of consultations between the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, and the Malay Rulers today.
Istana Negara later announced that a government request to declare a state of emergency had been denied by the King. The governmen had sought emergency powers to deal with the recent surge of Covid-19 cases, and also in the name of political stability.
Before the palace statement was announced, Chow had told FMT that he would be attending the 9.30am meeting with the PM tomorrow. However, a source told FMT this evening that Chow had cancelled the trip, and so had Abang Johari.
No reason was initially given, but Chow later told FMT that he had called off his trip to KL because tomorrow’s meeting was cancelled.

The meeting between Sultan Abdullah and other Malay rulers started in the afternoon and ended at around 6pm. In a statement later, the King said there is no need for a state of emergency in any part of the country.
He had also reminded politicians to stop politicking, which can disrupt the stability of the country’s administration, and stressed the importance of the 2021 Budget, which is to be tabled at the Dewan Rakyat on Nov 6. - FMT
