Past Govts Allowed Kl Prostitution Gambling Dens To Thrive Anwar
Prostitution and illegal gambling dens in Kuala Lumpur keep cropping up despite raids due to corruption and because previous governments had not taken the matter seriously, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim claimed.
He said his government, however, is taking clear action towards stomping out such operations.
“This matter was ignored for so long, including by previous governments.
“You understand, yeah? So what is being pictured is not what is actually happening,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Global Madani Forum in Kuala Lumpur today.
ADS“I believe if there is a prostitution or illegal gambling den, all this must involve elements of bribery,” he also said.
Anwar said this when asked to comment on the failure to eradicate such illicit activities from the capital when Indonesia had shut down Dolly, the largest red-light district in Southeast Asia.
Asked whether the MACC would get involved, the premier said he believed it was heading in that direction.
Last month, Federal Territories Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa told Harian Metro that there was a need for further discussion to widen the terms of reference for the KL Strike Force so that there can be integrated action to stamp out prostitution dens in the capital.
The KL Strike Force is an interagency unit established in May to facilitate Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s cooperation with enforcement agencies.
The strike force’s initial scope of reference was to crack down on undocumented migrants in Kuala Lumpur. - Mkini
