Pas Stance On Pn Govt Unchanged Deputy President
While the country's political situation is experiencing another round of turbulence, PAS is intent on staying calm and upholding its commitment to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government, said its deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
PAS' stance on its position in the PN government of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin remains the same even though Umno has shifted its position, Ibrahim said.
"PAS' stance remains the same, which is to strengthen the Muafakat Nasional (cooperation between Umno and PAS) and also to defend PN.
"We will have a discussion (on this topic)," he said briefly when contacted by Malaysiakini, today.
He was asked to comment on the latest developments after Umno announced that it was considering withdrawing its support for the PN government.
Yesterday, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said the party will consider withdrawing its support for PN and will set new terms for continuing its cooperation with the PN government.
“Umno will consider withdrawing support for PN and will set new conditions for the PN government to continue political cooperation through a written agreement that will be implemented as soon as possible,” he said following a meeting chaired by party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi last night.
Several royal audience sessions with the heads of political parties were scheduled recently, after the Agong's audience with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim yesterday morning.
After his royal audience, Anwar claimed at a press conference that he has the support of over 120 MPs, adding that the king would be calling the heads of other political parties for their input and to confirm the supporting documents he had submitted.
However, this morning, a scheduled royal meeting with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng was postponed by the palace.
On Sept 23, Anwar proclaimed that he had secured a "formidable and convincing" majority support to form a new government and oust Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.
However, Istana Negara's comptroller of the royal household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said yesterday that Anwar only presented the total number of MPs purportedly supporting him and not the names of those MPs. - Mkini
