Pas Right To Want A Pm From Their Party Muhyiddin
PAS has the right to want a prime ministerial candidate from its own party, Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin said today.
However, the Bersatu chairperson said such decisions are made by component party leaders within the coalition.
“Matters such as that will be discussed, and later decisions are made by party leaders, not by me,” he told a press conference after Bersatu’s annual general assembly at Shah Alam.
Last week, PAS denied that Muhyiddin is PN’s prime ministerial candidate in the next general election, stating that the coalition has not decided on the matter.
ADSDuring an interview with Malaysiakini recently, newly minted Bersatu vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said if others in the coalition harbour ambitions to become prime minister, they should stop dreaming.
In response, PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin said someone from his party is more suitable for the position and that the Islamist party must not be sidelined in such an important decision.
‘PN sec-gen is my prerogative’
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin also noted that as the PN chairperson, he has the right to appoint the coalition’s secretary-general and deputy secretary-general.
He was responding to a question on PAS’ perceived disapproval over the recent appointment of former Selangor menteri besar Azmin Ali as PN secretary-general.
“That is in the (PN) constitution. But even in spite of that, we will discuss (it) in our next meeting,” Muhyiddin said.
Azmin AliOn Wednesday (Nov 27), PAS lawmaker Ahmad Marzuk Shaary described the selection of Azmin as the coalition secretary-general as a “mere proposal”.
The day before, PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden proposed that the party’s secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan replace Hamzah Zainudin as the new PN secretary-general.
However, PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad dismissed a media report, quoting sources, claiming the Islamist party was against Azmin getting the post.
“Where did the report come from? The enemies? If it’s citing sources, no such thing. It’s just the devil’s whisper,” the Bagan Serai MP added. - Mkini
