Pas Mp Says Indian Voters Have Special Role In Kkb Polls
KKB BY-ELECTION | Hulu Selangor MP Hasnizan Harun said Indian voters have a “special” role in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election on May 11.
The Hulu Selangor PAS chairperson believes the support of Indian voters could be decisive in the upcoming polls.
“(During Perikatan Nasional’s discussion to determine the candidate) we found that the Malays will vote if there is a Malay candidate and the Chinese will support the Chinese candidate.
“But, Indian voters are ‘special’. That means that since we now have a Chinese candidate (Pakatan Harapan’s Pang Sock Tao) against a Malay candidate (PN candidate Khairul Azhari Saut) Indian voters become important,” he told reporters in Kerling, Kuala Kubu Baharu last night.
Hasnizan has targeted that 40 percent of Indian voters will support Khairul and claimed that the current momentum shows they are inclined to choose PN.
“Indian voters’ support for PN this time - the difference is quite significant.
“I can say the response is positive based on (unofficial) polls that show 60 percent of Indian voters support PN.
“We don’t know, maybe they are just saying it, but we see that the response is positive.
“We are targeting that 40 percent of Indian voters will support us,” he said, adding that the support of the Indian community for PN at this time is different than during the 2022 general election.
Khairul is in a four-way fight for the seat, facing Pang, Hanizah Zainudin (PRM) and Nyau Ke Xin (independent).
Kuala Kubu Baharu is a mixed seat with 46 percent Malay voters, Chinese (30 percent), Indian (18 percent) and others (six percent). - Mkini
