Pas Berates Non Muslims Inter Faith Council For Opposing Jakim S Officer Placement At Gov T Depts

PAS has hit out at the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) for opposing the proposed move by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) to place its officers in government departments to ensure its policy formulation is in line with Islamic principles.
Like its opposition to the proposal to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355) in April, PAS secretary-general Datuk SeriTakiyiddin Hassan has accused MCCBCHST of opposing JAKIM’s move based on “half-baked, inaccurate and arbitrary interpretations of the law”.

‘In both of these protest cases, MCCBCHST clearly displayed its Islamophobia stance alongside a negative narrative to portray that any move and effort to improve the position and practice of Islam in this country is a ‘threat’ to the rights and freedoms of non-Muslims,” the Kota Bahru MP pointed out in a statement.
“Based on its premise, MCCBCHST claimed that such measures and efforts are against the guarantee of basic rights for non-Muslims as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.”
Meanwhile, PAS’ vice-president Datuk Idris Ahmad warned MCCBCHST against issuing statements that hurt the feelings of Muslims in Malaysia as this will affect relationship of the various races in the country.

“In fact, whoever is behind MCCBCHST is trying to instill fear in non-Muslims to rise against Islam,” asserted the Bagan Serai MP in a statement.
“MCCBCHST should look at various court decisions based on judges’ interpretations of Islam that go far beyond the limits of ritual and ceremony such as the Lina Joy, Iki Putra Mubarak and even the Nik Elin Zurina cases.
“I would like to congratulate the Muslim Lawyers Association of Malaysia (PPMM) who quickly responded to the arguments by having enlightened Malaysians of various races with the truth based on accurate facts.” – Focus Malaysia
