Parliamentary Services Bill Zaid Just Happy To Criticise Govt Mp
DAP MP Syahredzan Johan took umbrage at former law minister Zaid Ibrahim’s criticism of the newly proposed Parliamentary Services Bill 2025.
This comes after Zaid described the bill as poorly drafted and not clear of its purpose.
“There are individuals who actually care about these reforms, who strive to improve the bill and make it better both publicly and behind the scenes.
“I respect and value the opinions of these people, and we work with some of them to improve the bill. We will continue to work with them in the future.
“But Zaid is not one of them. He is happy to just criticise the Madani government,” he said in a statement today.

Zaid IbrahimEarlier today, Free Malaysia Today reported that, among other things, the bill does not mention whether it would provide Parliament with a statutory framework where better-quality staff will be employed with better pay outside of the current civil service terms.
In addition, Zaid, a former minister, claimed the bill lacked safeguards to ensure that council members uphold professionalism when recruiting clerks, administrators, and other staff without reference to the Public Services Department.
First step
On that note, Syahredzan said that while the bill is not perfect, it was the first step towards establishing a truly independent Parliament.
“It is not meant to be the final step, and what the bill sets out to do is clear to someone with even a rudimentary knowledge of legal provisions.
“If we wait for Zaid’s so-called perfectly drafted bill, we will never take any step towards a truly independent and empowered Parliament,” he stressed.

According to the bill, the proposed law would provide for the establishment of the Parliamentary Service and Parliamentary Service Council, allowing Parliament to manage its own administration.
It would create a separate service for Parliament independent of the public service system.
The Parliament Service provides Parliament with extra staff, including clerks for the upper and lower Houses.
The staff will be appointed from the general public service and shall hold office until the age of compulsory retirement.
Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Service Council will be chaired by the Dewan Negara president, with the Dewan Rakyat speaker as co-chair, followed by the deputy presidents and deputy speakers.
The council will include two Dewan Negara members and four Dewan Rakyat members, as well as the clerks of both Houses and other government officials. - Mkini
