Opposition Reps Chant Turun As The Day S Dewan Rakyat Sitting Ends
PARLIAMENT | Cries of “turun” (step down) rang out from opposition MPs, as Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul ended today’s session, which saw a lengthy debate and winding-up on the 2025 Auditor-General’s Report Series 2.
The chants were in reference to an upcoming rally urging Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to resign.
Although it was unclear which Perikatan Nasional MPs were part of the chant, those who were sighted in the house at the end of today’s sitting include, among others, its chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu), Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas), and Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN-Masjid Tanah).
The “Himpunan Turun Anwar” protest scheduled for 2pm in downtown Kuala Lumpur on Saturday is the apex of a series of smaller demonstrations PAS and PN have been organising, calling for Anwar's resignation.
ADSEarlier today, Bernama reported Kuala Lumpur police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad as saying that the police received 60 reports on the rally.
He said around participants will number around 10,000 to 15,000 people, who are expected to comprise a combination of NGOs, students, and the general public, he said.
Restricted rights
Also today, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) warned civil servants against joining the rally, saying that they are subject to laws that restrict their rights against doing so.
The AGC said civil servants are subject to the Oath of Office as provided for in subregulation 20(3) of the Public Officers (Appointment, Promotion, and Termination of Service) Regulations 2012.

On Monday, Bernama had reported Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar reminding civil servants not to participate in the rally as well.
However, Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) urged civil servants to defy Shamsul’s warning, with director Zaid Malek calling the directive “unlawful”.
He said LFL is also prepared to offer legal assistance to civil servants who face reprisal for joining the rally. - Mkini
