Only 4 In 1 Million Will Have Vaccine Side Effects Says Health Dg
Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah and prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin were vaccinated on Wednesday. (Bernama pic)PUTRAJAYA: Only four people in every one million who are vaccinated for Covid-19 will experience side effects, health-director general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed this evening.
However to date, Noor Hisham said he has not heard of any of those who had been vaccinated complain about side effects.
“And this a positive development,” he said in a dialogue this evening when describing his experience of getting inoculated.
Noor Hisham said that even though cases of side-effects were isolated incidents, the ministry has prepared a special room for those who develop a reaction to the vaccine.
These patients would be monitored for 15 to 20 minutes.
He hoped more people would come forward to register for vaccination. Those with HIV would be vaccinated if they had “no health issues”. The same rule also applied to cancer patients, he said.
Deputy director-general (public health) Dr Chong Chee Keong said over 99% of those who experienced side effects would have mild to moderate reactions.
“But there will be chances of a severe reaction and all the vaccination centres are equipped to deal with this.”
The ministry’s Disease Control Division senior principal assistant director Dr A Maheshwara Rao said some 1.065 million Malaysians have registered to be vaccinated.
He said “more and more” were also registering, with about 300,000 a day signing up to be vaccinated.
Maheshwara also revealed that 21 million people have installed the MySejahtera app with 30,000 to 40,000 downloads per day.
“We see a lot of non-Malaysians downloading the app right now.” - FMT
