Of Border Security And Barber Cluster
I AM glad that Muhyiddin Yassin took heed Zahid Hamidi's concern over the border security in light of the Covid-19. Since our neighboring countries are also trying to contain the deadly pandemic, Malaysia has to take extra measures at its border in order to stop illegal immigrants from finding their way into the country.
In a statement three days ago, Zahid said the government must step up surveillance at all check points to halt any attempts by the illegal immigrants from border infiltration.
As we are not certain of their health status, we mus beef up security measures at all point of entries, including the unmanned 'lubang tikus' throughout the country. This will involve cooperation between the army, police, maritime, Rela and other authorities.
When announcing the MCO (Movement Control Order) for another two weeks (April 15-28) yesterday, the prime minister said he as issued directive to the IGP and Chief of Armed Forces to make necessary arrangement so that our patrolling is stepped up to put a check to any possible incursion of illegal immigrants.
As the former DPM and Home Minister, Zahid took up the border security issue as among measures needed to be taken should the government is serious in containing the spread of Covid-19.
All praises to both of them!
* HOWEVER, I am not on the same page with the Senior Minister Azmin Ali when he allowed barber shops, among few others, to reopen during this difficult times.
I wonder if Azmin is aware of the social distancing (at least a meter between two persons) directive by the government as one of many ways to stop Covid-19 from killing more people?
To me (and maybe more people out there), having a hair cut means nothing at all compared with the risk of contagion at the barber shops. He should also be aware that almost all barbers are not locals - there are foreigners from India, Bangladesh and other countries.
You can have your ear cut off if the barber obeys the one-meter ruling!
Come on bro, we dont want a 'Barber Cluster' for Covid-19!
