Nuisance Or Dangerous Homeless People Turn Overhead Bridge Into Real Estate Along Jalan Genting Klang

THERE is a reason commercial and industrial properties are not allowed to be repurposed into residential complexes, all in the name of good town planning.
With that said, is it even possible to turn the side of an overhead bridge into your private real estate? The answer is a big no, but that doesn’t stop people from trying.
And that was exactly what happened in a recent video where a vigilante Malaysian could be seen recording the condition of a bridge that had been turned into a home for several homeless people. Not so homeless now, it would seem.
In the video, a man could be seen lying down on a mattress, several pairs of slippers and footwear lining the bridge at the side as though his very own shoe rack.
Fronting him was a pile of belongings covered in netting, which resembled trash. Further away, the video panned over to a corner where a cluster of plastic bottles were kept, each holding a strange, yellowish fluid. Is it urine?
No one could tell, but it is certainly a sight for sore eyes for anyone passing through the bridge.
The vigilante who recorded the video could be seen informing viewers that students usually used the bridge and that these homeless people could pose a danger to them.
According to him, the location of the bridge was beside the Columbia Hospital along Jalan Genting Klang. A quick check revealed that the PV 128 shopping mall is also within walking distance. And just to the north of the Colombia Asia Hospital was the Danau Kota Lake.
But is this a video about homeless people misappropriating public infrastructure or does it indicate a far bigger picture of a society struggling in a bad economic situation?
While it is vital to clear off these homeless people, it pays to ponder the fact that people will not use a bridge as a home unless they have no choice. Think about that. — Focus Malaysia
