Not True Macc Says Every Action Carried Out Based On Solid Evidence

The MACC carries out its investigations based on solid information and evidence and does not take sides when prosecuting a suspect.
So said the commission in response to an allegation by former home minister Hamzah Zainuddin that implicating his name in four graft charges against a "Datuk Seri" yesterday was a political ploy aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
"Investigation papers compiled with findings under the MACC Act 2009 are referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers for scrutiny and consideration.
"Therefore, the accusation by a former minister that MACC deliberately made up the investigation and prosecution to tarnish his name is not true, and has tarnished the commission's image," MACC said in a statement today.
"Every action by the MACC, be it investigation or prosecution, is carried out according to provisions of law independently and professionally, and is not meant to pressure any individual for political factors."
Opposition leader Hamzah ZainuddinIn making the allegation, Hamzah, who is also the opposition leader, implied that linking his name to the four graft charges against businessperson Sim Choo Thiam at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court yesterday was aimed at tarnishing his name, as well as that of Perikatan Nasional and Bersatu, of which he is the secretary-general.
Sim was slapped with one count of soliciting and three counts of receiving bribes involving RM15 million, which purportedly took place two years ago.
The 63-year-old businessperson pleaded not guilty to committing the offences between June (specific date not mentioned) and July 30, 2021, as inducement for Hamzah, who was then home minister, to help Asia Coding Centre Sdn Bhd to obtain any project from agencies under the ministry.
Hamzah was questioned by the MACC yesterday evening - hours after Sim was charged with the offence. - Mkini
