Not Just Govt Public Must Also Ensure Sop Compliance Minister
The government, especially enforcement agencies under the Home Ministry, should not be made fully responsible for ensuring compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), especially with increasing relaxations.
Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin said all parties should make complying with the SOPs a normal practice, especially since Covid-19 will be treated as endemic soon.
"I represent the Home Ministry which is responsible for ensuring SOP compliance, but our work should not only be this...
"Acting against the offences of not adhering to the SOPs, that’s just a small part.
"We have other strategies like safeguarding our border areas and entry points against illegal entry by individuals and those carrying drugs and so on. Let us also focus on these," he said at a press conference in Yan, Kedah, today.
Earlier, he was briefed on the flood situation and water surge phenomenon in Gunung Jerai by Yan district officer Tunku Iskandar Shah Tunku Muzaffar Shah.
Hamzah said the government should also not be blamed for those who don't comply with SOPs such as employers who should be responsible for their workers.
"If the factories are allowed to operate, who should be ensuring SOP compliance? It should be the management but why do we blame the government?
"It should start with the employers. (If they) are unhappy with the (SOP) implementation to a certain extent, they can report to us and we will send a team to the factory concerned,” he added.
Meanwhile, Hamzah said there have been no officers or staff members of the Home Ministry and its agencies refusing to receive the Covid-19 vaccine as most of them are frontliners in the pandemic fight.
"We have ensured that as frontliners, over 91 percent of the police force have received the vaccine, while almost 100 percent of the Malaysia Prisons Department have been vaccinated so far,” he added.
On the flood situation, he said the National Registration Department will be providing a mobile service for replacing or issuing new personal identification documents.
This is for the flood victims whose documents had been lost or damaged in the massive flood in Yan on Aug 18.
