No Official Statement Igp Says Bukit Aman Reshuffle Report Untrue
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain has described speculations of a major reshuffle involving Bukit Aman's top leadership as "untrue" as the federal police headquarters has not issued an official statement on the matter.
Razarudin said police are aware of a news report quoting sources alleging that it was a Bukit Aman "internal plan" with several senior officers expected to be transferred out of the agency.
"The Royal Malaysian Police urge all quarters to not quote unofficial sources particularly when involving the security forces and government agencies," he said in a statement.
The statement was issued in response to a Malaysiakini report that quoted a source who spoke on condition of anonymity and named several senior officers including Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay as allegedly being among those who could be affected by the move.
Razarudin's statement titled "Kenyataan Tidak Benar" (Untrue Statement) was shared in Bukit Aman's official media WhatsApp group.
Asked for clarification on whether Razarudin is denying Malaysiakini's report, a police spokesperson said the report is considered to be "untrue" as it did not quote an official police source.
"The title of (Razarudin’s) statement is referring to the online portal's report," said the spokesperson.
Malaysiakini previously contacted Ayob who remained mum about the claim, while a senior Home Ministry official said that if there was such a reshuffling plan it would be an internal issue with the police, and that the ministry was not involved.
Later, Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said a Bukit Aman officer lodged the report to facilitate further investigations under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The said authors of the article will be summoned to assist with investigations. - Mkini
