No Merger With Pkr Says Amanah Number Two
Salahuddin Ayub says PKR and Amanah will remain comrades in Pakatan Harapan. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub has quashed talk of a merger with PKR, saying his party will not entertain any such proposal.
The Pulai MP told FMT that the matter had not been raised or discussed in Pakatan Harapan, adding that the proposal was also not the official stand of either party.
“This matter is not even an issue. It just came from certain quarters and it’s not the official view of the parties concerned.
“We have formed Amanah and are a part of PH until this day. And we will remain comrades in PH,” he said, of the PAS splinter party.
Yesterday, PH chairman and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said a formal proposal for PKR and Amanah to be merged had been received although no discussions had been held as yet.
He said the leaders of both parties were aware of the proposal and would explore the idea, adding that the proposal to merge both parties had been thrown around for some time by some members of PKR.
Previously, former Selangor PKR Youth chief Najwan Halimi said the merger should be considered as it would help PH win more Malay votes in rural seats as well as resolve the seat allocation issue between both parties.
The idea had also been mooted by political analyst Wong Chin Huat, following the outcome of the Melaka polls which saw Amanah winning just one seat while PKR failed to win any. - FMT
