No Criminal Offence In Leaked Wisma Putra Audio Say Police
Wisma Putra had lodged a police report after an audio clip of a phone conversation between two people made the rounds on social media.KUALA LUMPUR: Police have found no criminal offence in their investigation into a leaked audio clip linked to Wisma Putra.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim said police had therefore reverted the case to the foreign ministry to conduct its own internal investigation.
“There’s no criminal offence to be investigated. So we have reverted the case to Wisma Putra for an internal investigation,” he said at a media conference here today.
Asked whether the matter could be probed under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Azmi said the audio did not belong to the government.
Previously, Wisma Putra had lodged a report after an audio clip of a phone conversation between two people made the rounds on social media.
The clip, among others, alleged that Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was not on good terms with foreign minister Saifuddin Abdullah.
‘PASLeak’ enquiry paper
Meanwhile, Azmi clarified that police would not call all politicians named in the “PasLeak” papers yet, because they had just opened an enquiry paper to establish the gist of the police report.
“We are investigating based on the enquiry paper. It is to establish whether there was an offence committed and what kind of offence was involved.
“Who we want to summon will be based on the preliminary investigation,” he said.
Yesterday, the media reported that police would summon politicians named in the purported leaked minutes of a PAS meeting.
The document detailed a plot to topple Umno leaders and the need for “interference” in certain Umno leaders’ court cases to expedite sentencing.
PAS leaders have denied the authenticity of the document. - FMT
