No Community Infection In Teratai Cluster Says Health Dg
COVID-19 | Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the Teratai cluster, which has the highest number of Covid-19 cases so far, has not spread the infection to the community.
Noor Hisham informed that so far, within this cluster, the virus has infected workers and their close contacts only.
“We have not found any community infection. The infection is among workers as well as close contacts of the workers.
"(A total of) 164 of the (infected) individuals are Malaysians living in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur and when they went home, infected family members.
“But outside the community of the Teratai cluster, we have not seen any infection among the community,” he said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
As of Nov 25, the Health Ministry had screened 6,506 individuals in the Teratai cluster, with 4,063 positive cases, which is about 62.5 percent positive rate.
Noor Hisham said screening is still being carried out at the Teratai cluster.
Those who were screened will have to be quarantined and take a second test on the 13th day of their quarantine.
They will only be released from quarantine if their second test result also comes back negative, he said.
Previously, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had announced that all 28 Top Glove factories in Klang, Selangor, had been ordered to close in stages due to their involvement in the Teratai cluster.
Noor Hisham said that so far, 20 factories have been closed temporarily as of Nov 24.
“Even though we closed the factories, the machinery in the factories have to keep running. Otherwise, they will malfunction so we allowed the machinery to keep operating but at a minimal rate.
The remaining eight factories will be closed in stages after this, he added.
Noor Hisham said that, meanwhile, the Health Ministry encouraged employers with foreign workers and those in red zones to screen their workers periodically. - Mkini
