The portal, launched by the Association of Science, Technology and Innovation (Asti), a non-governmental organisation, is open to all looking to contribute to the discourse on a wide range of issues and have their research published.
The YIJ hopes to empower the young generation with their new ideas and inventions.
Pratheep Sandrasaigaran, managing editor of YIJ, said: “YIJ was formed in order to help young children to communicate their ideas, innovation, and scientific inventions to the public.”
As scientists, we know there is a proper channel for us to communicate our ideas. If an invention or idea only stays in the lab, it will be useless unless it is properly communicated to the public, he said.
Yunus Yasin, who is Asti’s president, said: “If you have the will and confidence to write a particular paper in an academic style, you will have that avenue open to you in the Young Inventors Journal portal.”
It is open to those who are “young at mind and young at heart”, he said.
He hoped to change the world one person at a time.
The YIJ allows anyone to submit a paper and they need not be affiliated with any academic or research organisation.
As of now, Asti has organised three paper writing competitions, titled “How to conserve and save water”, for students aged between 13 and 18 in 2019, “How to rebuild a better world post-Covid-19”, which was open to participants aged 18 to 40, and “Reinventing a better future post-Covid-19 for social well-being & mental health”, which concluded on Feb 10 this year.
Rosli Yacob, of the Institute of Teacher Education (IPGM), said YIJ is a free online journal that can draw the interest and attention of young minds in science, technology and innovation.
“It is profoundly significant in moulding the young generation.” - FMT
