Nancy Aiming For A Return To Tourism Ministry After Ge15

Nancy Shukri (centre) said there were many tourist attractions that should be developed.KUCHING: Tourism, arts and culture minister Nancy Shukry is hopeful of a return to office after the general election (GE15) to complete her mission of realising Malaysia’s potential as a fun and vibrant destination.
Nancy, who will be contesting the Santubong seat in Sarawak, said she still has a lot to offer.
“If I’m reappointed, there will be more things that the ministry will do such as (holding) dancing (events) in the streets,” she said.
Nancy added that her ministry had recently promoted Malaysia’s signature dance “Joget Malaysia”.
At the same time, Nancy said there were many other tourist attractions in the country that needed to be further developed.

“For example, in Kuching, Sarawak, there are not many islands or places that the public can go to compared to Sabah.
“Therefore, we need to look at our (Kuching) strengths.
“In Sarawak, there are many crocodiles and to me, these animals can be a tourist attraction,” she said, proposing it could be done through a riverboat tour.
Nancy also said there were many new geo-parks in Kuching which needed to be promoted, adding that more accessibility should be provided for the public to visit them.
She also said in Kelantan, there was a floating market that needed to be publicised as well as Terengganu’s art and culture.
Nancy added that the use of motor homes or caravans should be encouraged so that visitors would be able to enjoy different parts of Malaysia.
Meanwhile, she believed that Sarawak’s premier Abang Johari Openg had nominated her for the Santubong seat in order to further improve tourism in the constituency.
“Santubong is the best place to promote tourism. Even the Sarawak cultural village is there. Perhaps the premier has his own vision on how we can improve Santubong,” she said.
Nancy, who was born in Santubong, said she was confident that she could add more value to the constituency. - FMT
