Najib Rosmah And Umno In Bid To Claim Cash Bling In Forfeiture Application
Former prime minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.KUALA LUMPUR: Najib Razak, his wife Rosmah Mansor, and Umno are seeking to be third parties in the government’s forfeiture application against a company over jewellery, handbags and watches seized after the May 9 general election last year
Deputy public prosecutor Aaron Chelliah told the High Court here today that the trio wish to stake a claim on some of the items seized from Obyu Holdings Sdn Bhd
“We gazetted our notice to call third party claimants on Aug 26, and several parties came forward today,” he said
Umno’s lawyer Nor Fazreen Hazrina Rahim said the party wishes to claim RM114.2 million in cash seized by the authorities on Jan 31
Lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, representing the former prime minister, said Najib is seeking to claim certain amounts of foreign currency as well as pens and watches
He told the court that the money and items are Najib’s personal belongings
Lawyer Azrul Zulkifli Stork, representing Rosmah and her two children Nooryana and Norashman, said they want to claim certain items of jewellery as well as accessories
Lebanese jeweller Global Royalty Trading SAL, represented by David Gurupatham, is also seeking the return of 44 pieces of jewellery worth RM59.8 million
The company previously filed a suit against Rosmah over the jewellery which includes rings, necklaces, earrings and pendants
High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah ordered all interested third parties to file formal applications before the forfeiture hearing on Oct 31
The government is seeking to forfeit jewellery, handbags, watches, money in foreign currency as well as a piece of property seized from Obyu Holdings, all of which are said to be worth RM680 million
The items were seized between May 17, 2018 and Jan 31 this year. - FMT
