Musa Demands Shafie Pay Rm1b To Charity Over Missing Rm872m Claim
Former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman has issued a letter of demand to his successor Shafie Apadal and two Yayasan Sabah trustees asking them to pay RM1 billion to charity, among others
This is over a press conference yesterday during the which Yayasan Sabah announced it had filed a claim to recover RM872 million that is allegedly missing due to purported “dubious” logging contracts issued during Musa's time as chairperson
Musa, through his lawyer Tengku Fuad Tengku Ahmad, has denied wrongdoing and is now through his letter of demand seeking reparations within 24 hours from Shafie, Yayasan Sabah board of trustees directors Jamalul Kiram Mohd Zakaria and Douglas Lind
"(The first demand is for them to) pay to a charity of Musa’s choice a sum of RM1 billion," read a statement from Tengku Fuad
Other demands include sending to Musa's lawyers an unconditional letter of apology which must then be published in all newspapers and online media as well as be read out at a press conference
They also demanded that the three parties named permanently desist from repeating the allegations
"Musa states that the effect of their press conference, press release and publication of the writ has caused damage and loss to his good name and reputation and is now proceeding against those responsible," Tengku Fuad added
Umno veteran Musa served as Sabah chief minister for 15 years from 2003 to 2018
Following BN and Umno’s fall from federal power in GE14, he was charged with corruption and money-laundering over timber concessions in the state
Last week, Musa was acquitted on all 46 charges after the prosecution applied to withdraw them. The case did not make it to trial
Established in 1966, state-owned Yayasan Sabah is the holder of most of the state's logging concessionaires. - Mkini
