Mum Held After 2 Disabled Boys Found With Their Legs Chained
Police said the mother had chained the children’s legs together because their behaviour was bad and they were hard to control.PETALING JAYA: Three teenage boys, two of them disabled and believed to be victims of domestic abuse, were rescued last night at Simpang Empat, Perlis.
Their mother has been arrested for alleged abuse.
Police said the boys looked fatigued when they were found, two of them with their legs chained together.
They were found next to a bridge along Jalan Kampung Tambun Tulang by a member of the public around midnight.
Kangar district police chief Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusof told Berita Harian that the two chained boys were identified as persons with disabilities (OKU). The other victim was not chained and did not have an OKU card.
Yusharifuddin said police believed the three victims were siblings, aged 14 to 16, and they had fled from home because they could not take the abuse by their mother any longer.
“We believe the victims were chained by their mother, who does not live with them,” the report quoted him as saying.
Police have arrested the 46-year-old mother of the boys and a 31-year-old man, who is not related to them, to assist in their investigations.
According to Yusharifuddin, the mother admitted to chaining the children’s legs because their behaviour was bad and they were hard to control.
He said both the suspects had been remanded for seven days starting today. Investigations will be carried out under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001.
The boys are currently being treated at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital, Kangar, and will be sent to the Perlis state welfare department after their treatment. - FMT
