Muhyiddin Urges Pulai Voters To Deny Govt Two Thirds Majority

JOHOR BY-ELECTIONS | Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin said it is important to deny the federal government a two-thirds majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
At a gathering with Malay-Muslim NGOs from across Johor today, the former prime minister said doing so will impact the government’s ability to amend the Federal Constitution.
“That is why I said, (Pulai is) an important seat. If we win, we deny them two-thirds.
“Two-thirds majority has a big impact on the issue of amendments to the Federal Constitution,” said the Bersatu president.
Speaking to reporters after a dialogue session with the NGOs at a restaurant in Kempas, Muhyiddin (above, middle) said the Pulai parliamentary by-election will impact Malays and Muslims.
“Another thing we’re concerned with is the issue of redelineation that can happen within this term.
“They will use their two-thirds power (to redraw constituency borders),” he said.
Muhyiddin claimed that such attempts if left unchecked would lead to future decisions being made against the interests of Malays and Muslims
He said today’s gathering with Malay-Muslim NGOs, including Perkasa and Ummah, will boost support for PN candidate Zulkifli Jaafar come polling day on Sept 9.
Also present were Johor PN chief Dr Sahrudin Jamal and Gerakan president Dominic Lau.

An unexpected vacancy caused by death of Pulai incumbent Salahuddin Ayub saw the government bench left with 147 seats, one short to maintain two-thirds control in the Dewan Rakyat. - Mkini
