Muda To Meet On Syed Saddiq S Role After Appeals Court Clears Him
Muda will convene a special meeting tonight to discuss the status of its former president, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, following the acquittal granted to him by the Court of Appeal today.
The party’s acting president, Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, said the meeting is necessary after the appellate court acquitted Syed Saddiq of four charges of criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property, and money laundering linked to RM1.12 million of Bersatu Youth funds.
“We will hold an important meeting tonight to discuss the party’s future direction and (Syed Saddiq’s) position in the party.
“Any updates will be shared in due course,” Amira (above, right) told a press conference after the verdict was delivered in Putrajaya today.
She stressed that she has consistently defended the Muar MP’s innocence from the time when the charges were first brought against the Muda founder and the party’s sole representative in Parliament.
“We’re truly grateful for today’s decision. From the beginning of this journey in 2020, I’ve stood by him as a friend and political colleague,” she said.

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul RahmanShe cited her trust in Syed Saddiq’s integrity and honesty as one of the reasons why she had agreed to provide bail for him.
“I put my name forward as his bailor because I believed 100 percent in his integrity and the legitimacy of his position in this case. (Today’s court verdict) proves that Syed Saddiq is a man of honesty and principles, especially in the realm of politics,” she said.
Briefly speaking to reporters, Syed Saddiq, who had stepped down from the Muda presidency following his conviction in 2023, affirmed that all party decisions will be made collectively as a team.
He added that for now, he wishes to spend time with his family.
Prosecution fails to prove charge
A three-member bench led by judge Noorin Badarudin ruled today that the prosecution had failed to prove the charge against Syed Saddiq, accusing him of abetting a former Bersatu Youth leader in committing criminal breach of trust involving RM1 million in wing funds.
ADSBesides failing to show dishonest intent when Syed Saddiq ordered the funds to be withdrawn, Noorin said the prosecution had also not managed to prove that his actions led to wrongful gains for himself or wrongful loss for Bersatu Youth.
Syed Saddiq was accused of committing the crimes between 2018 and 2020.
He was charged in 2021 and convicted by the High Court in November 2023.
The lower court had sentenced him to seven years in jail, two strokes of the rotan, and slapped him with an RM10 million fine. - Mkini
