Muafakat Derailed By Certain Umno Individuals Hadi
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has blamed certain parties within Umno for causing their initial cooperation through Mafakat Nasional to be disrupted.
Without naming names, the Marang MP said there were certain parties in Umno who wanted to change the "unity agenda" agreed by both parties to suit their own interests and agenda.
"The issue had escalated to the point of damaging the pact and having no real clear direction," he said in a note to PAS members today.
Hadi added that in such a situation, PAS still "adheres" to what was signed in good faith.
He said the cooperation that was formed also had boundaries, which only involved good policies such as the unity of the ummah based on Islam, performing good deeds and abandoning evil.
If a person sins, said Hadi, the door to repentance and forgiveness is opened if the individual repents.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang"However, PAS remains adamant not to cooperate in matters of sin such as continuing hostilities and hiding sins without repentance.
"In fact, PAS has not turned a blind eye to wrongdoings such as corruption, money politics, politics of wanting positions, misconduct and mismanagement," he claimed.
Notably, in 2019, Bachok MP Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz revealed that he wanted to come clean on an audio recording of him admitting to PAS receiving funds from Umno, but the Islamist party's leaders such as Hadi felt otherwise since the last general election was around the corner and gave his blessings for a denial to be issued.
PAS will not collapse
The statement by the special envoy to the Middle East comes at a time when PAS-Umno relations continued to be uncertain.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported PAS' Hashim Jasin as saying that Muafakat had succeeded in uniting the party's followers and Umno at the grassroots level despite them having been enemies for a long time due to differences in political ideology.
Therefore, he said, PAS will try to defend Muafakat even though certain parties try to overthrow it.
He also claimed members at the grassroots level were happy with Muafakat and the rural community seemed united.
Hadi said PAS rejects anyone who takes an approach that deviates from the concept of taawun (cooperation) based on "Quranic guidelines" and it is willing to accept the consequences, including the loss of power or election seat.
"PAS has not collapsed due to defeats in several elections because its journey has not been completed and has not reached the finish line," he said. - Mkini
