Mp Made Selangor Coordinator Wants Vaccine Synergy With Federal Govt

Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming has called for close cooperation between the federal and state governments ahead of a plan to ensure every adult in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur receives at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine by August under Operation Surge Capacity (OSC).
Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin yesterday announced Ong as the coordinator in Selangor for the vaccination ramp-up.
Ong thanked Khairy for coming up with the OSC and Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari for giving him the opportunity to coordinate the vaccination ramp-up in Selangor.
"We must work together closely and put politics aside in order for the OSC to work so as to bring down the number of Covid-19 daily cases, and more importantly, those with serious Covid-19 cases who need to be hospitalised and put in the intensive care unit," he said in a statement.
As of July 13, 3.1 million people in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and another 1.7 million are expected to follow by July 26.
Another 1.3 million will need to be vaccinated between July 26 and Aug 1.
"This means that the daily capacity in the Klang Valley will have to be increased from 180,000 daily doses currently (July 14-18) to 210,000 daily doses (July 19-25) and then to at least 272,000 daily doses from July 26 to Aug 1.
"This would require an increase in the daily doses administered by the current Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPVs) under National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP), in the existing five sites that are already operating under Selangor Covid-19 Vaccination Programme (Selvax) Industry and in the current and soon-to-be-opened Public-Private Partnership Covid-19 Industry Immunisation Programme (Pikas) sites in Selangor and KL.
"The International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) and Selcare (which runs the Selvax Industry programme) will have to coordinate to minimise the amount of overlap between companies that want to get their workers vaccinated during the OSC.
"There also needs to be clear communication by Miti and Selcare for companies which have signed up for both programmes (Selvax Industry and Pikas) and those who have yet to sign up for any programme," he said.
For example, Ong said those who are willing to pay for the Selvax Industry programme should remain committed to the programme while those who cannot afford can wait for MIti's Pikas programme.
"Selcare will also have to work with MySejahtera to push for those who have been vaccinated under the Selvax programme to have their MySejahtera status updated as soon as possible so that these individuals won’t be allocated slots by MySejahtera to go for (additional) vaccination appointments.
"The ability of MySejatera to update its database to reflect the Selvax vaccinations is especially important in ensuring OSC reach its objective of reaching full vaccination in the Klang Valley by Aug 1," he said.
Ong added that other details will have to be worked out by all stakeholders in the next week before the full rollout of the OSC. - Mkini
