Many of them had to remain on roofs for two days with no food and no electricity, waiting to be evacuated.
Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming had rushed to the area to help in the rescue operations – in a quite unusual manner
“Because I am an experienced kayaker (about 20 trips along Sungai Klang, Gombak and Hulu Langat over the past 6 years), I was able to bring my kayak solo into Taman Sri Muda,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Ong said he and his team made about 15 trips over a four-hour period and managed to rescue about 40 people.
He said two of his three kayaks were damaged during the operation.
“Really grateful to my team, especially Unit Tindak DAP Bangi, for all their support and assistance,” he said.
“The work continues. More people need to be evacuated from Taman Sri Muda this morning. As the floodwaters recede, hopefully, this will make things easier for those involved in the search and rescue efforts.
“For the others, we have to provide assistance in cleaning up their residences and providing food to those who are at the temporary flood shelters.” - FMT
