Mp Highlights Flood Situation In Klang Urges Ec To Look Into It
Incumbent Klang MP Charles Santiago has highlighted the conditions voters may brave during the 15th general election in flooded areas.
Taking to Twitter, Charles posted a video of him at the Port Klang Jetty at 7.40am yesterday, where the Asa Niaga Harbour City (ANHC) carpark was inundated.
“There is no difference between the sea and the carpark. This is the carpark that has been closed.
“The water from the sea has already come to the land, and the chances are it will overflow to the main road in a couple of minutes.
“The point I want to raise here is that these are the kind of conditions you might be looking at when you vote in a couple of weeks. It is not a good idea (to go out and vote).
“This is a very serious situation and I hope the EC (Election Commission) is looking at this,” he said in the video.
Flood plans
The Port Klang Jetty is famously known to flood the coastal town of Klang during the monsoon season.
The incumbent MP has repeatedly demanded that the EC reveals its flood plans, should polling day occur during floods.
This comes after the authorities have warned of flood risk, especially in low-lying areas on the west coast of the peninsula.
Charles had estimated that over 107,000 voters in his constituency alone will be affected by the events of floods this year.
The DAP leader has also taken legal action to stop the GE15 from taking place this year, seeking a declaration that Ismail Sabri Yaakob's request to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve Parliament was in contravention of Articles 40(1) and (1A) of the Federal Constitution.
He also sought a declaration that the dissolution of Parliament was not in accordance with Article 55(2), Article 40(1) and (1A) of the constitution, and an order to stop the EC from taking any steps to conduct the election. - Mkini
