Mp Admits No Cabinet Decision On Madani Rice
Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal today admitted that his initial announcement for a single category of “Madani white rice” to be sold from March 1 has yet to receive cabinet approval.
The National Action Council on Cost of Living’s (Naccol) food prices and cost of living committee chairperson said further discussions and a decision will only be made next week.
“I didn’t say the cabinet approved the proposal. I said the prime minister did.
“Now we have to follow the procedure. The minister (Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu) said it will be brought to the cabinet, and it’s up to them to approve it,” Syed Abu Hussin (above) was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.
Earlier today, Mohamad said any announcement or decision made must follow the Control of Padi and Rice Act 1994 (Act 522) and be communicated to the cabinet.
“The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry agrees with the statement made by the prime minister yesterday that the proposal will be collectively discussed in the upcoming meeting of the Naccol Implementation Monitoring Committee,” he added.
Syed Abu Hussin reportedly declined further comments on whether he was confident the cabinet would give his proposal the thumbs up.
Previously, he claimed that there would no longer be categories of local white rice and imported white rice, making the Malaysia Madani white rice the sole category, to be sold at RM30 for a 10kg sack. - Mkini
