Mohamad Hasan Happy With Mca S Support In Cameron Highlands
Many BN leaders turned up at the nomination centre to show support for BN’s candidate Ramli Mohd Nor, a retired police officer of Orang Asli descent.TANAH RATA: Acting Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Mohamad Hasan is satisfied with the support shown by MCA after some of its top brass turned out at the by-election nomination centre here today
Mohamad said the presence of top MCA leaders, including vice-president Ti Lian Ker, Women’s chief Heng Seai Kie and Youth chief Nicole Wong, showed the MCA’s commitment and loyalty to BN to ensure victory in the by-election
“I’m satisfied because everyone came. Many top MCA leaders came, many from MIC and Umno came. All this shows our unity in BN,” he told reporters after the nomination process at SMK Sultan Ahmad Shah
Mohamad’s statement comes in the wake of some MCA leaders proposing leaving or dissolving BNThe former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar and Umno acting president also praised PAS leaders for lending their support to BN’s candidate, Ramli Mohd Nor
He said if this spirit of an opposition pact could be maintained, it could see the creation of a strong opposition to face the next general election
Mohamad also said Ramli, a former police officer of Orang Asli descent, was the best candidate as there were no issues with him
“He is the first Orang Asli candidate. If he wins, he will be the first Orang Asli to become an MP.”He added BN needed to work hard to win the by-election even though the Jelai state seat in the parliamentary constituency was won by Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail in the 14th general election
The by-election will see a four-cornered contest between Ramli, DAP’s M Manogaran and two independent candidates
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) expects the by-election results to be announced before 10pm on Jan 26
EC chairman Azhar Azizan Harun expects 70% turnout in the polls
The EC has provided a “Letter of Promise”, containing 10 promises, to be signed by each candidate so that they would comply with all rules set forth under the Election Offences Act 1954. - FMT
