DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang said finding a mechanism where views on school syllabus and heavy school bag issues could be aired and resolved should be prioritised. -NSTP file picKUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry should seek solutions to issues raised by teacher Mohd Fadli Mohd Salleh rather than taking disciplinary action against him.
DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang said finding a mechanism where views on school syllabus and heavy school bag issues could be aired and resolved should be prioritised.
"I call on the Education Ministry Disciplinary Board not to take any disciplinary action against teacher Mohd Fadli Mohd Salleh, better known as Cikgu Fadli, for being vocal about school syllabus and heavy school bag issues.
"The Education Ministry Disciplinary Board meeting tomorrow should explore the possibility of developing such a mechanism," he said.
Previously, on his Facebook page, Fadli disclosed the disciplinary action to be taken against him.
He also uploaded a letter dated Sept 22 titled "Tindakan Tatatertib Dengan Tujuan Buang Kerja atau Turun Pangkat" (Disciplinary action with the purpose of firing or demotion".
According to the letter, Fadli had allegedly committed three offences.
The first offence was using Facebook to criticise the timetable and subjects being taught in school.
The second was criticising the subjects being taught to the Primary One pupils on the same social media platform.
Thirdly was discussing on Facebook Live that too many subjects were being taught in school.
Fadli was required to respond to the letter within 21 days or he would be subjected to disciplinary action.
Following this incident, caretaker Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin is prepared to meet with the teacher who claims to be facing the possibility of being fired or demoted for criticising the education system on social media.
In a Facebook post, Radzi said he wanted to learn more about the issues raised by the SK(1) Gombak teacher.
"I am interested to know more about the matters raised by teacher Mohd Fadli Salleh.
"If you (Fadli) have the time, we can meet up," he said. - NST
