Moe S We Hate Bullies Campaign Mercilessly Mocked Online For Perceived Complete Waste Of Time

WITH the topic of bullying the current political hot potato, the Education Ministry’s (MOE) considered response of a rallying call to mark the beginning and end of the school day was mercilessly trolled online.
As reported by Astro Awani (@501Awani) on X, the MOE has mandated that the shout of “We Hate Bullies” be the catchphrase that brings this malaise to an end.
Many commenters could not hide their dismay at the perceived weakness of the campaign. Was this the best the big brains in the MOE could come up with?

Citing precedence of the futility of empty gestures, one commenter pointed to the anti-drug campaigns. He argued that empty sloganeering without real initiatives were doomed to fail.

A tongue-in-cheek comment suggested that planting “snitches” – real or imagined – in classrooms would force better discipline.
The commenter added that the MOE needs to utilise artificial intelligence (AI) more to get better results because at the moment “the approach taken is an epitome of cluelessness.”

One commenter mockingly wondered how was it that after years of hard work studying and building a career, someone within the MOE could actually come up with this proposal.
He further lamented why didn’t anyone in leadership positions have the backbone to oppose this fundamentally weak idea?

The same sentiments were also echoed elsewhere online. One example was Belle (@hanabelIe) who cited the anti-corruption slogans that are plastered everywhere in government offices as proof that empty sloganeering does not work.
However, rather than just mocking the campaign, the poster actually did attempt to offer a solution in the shape of empathy classes.
Instead of just meaningless civic education lessons that deal in general platitudes, this empathy classes are meant to make a real difference. She further cited the success of its application in Denmark.

However, the trolling was plentiful in the post’s comments section, reflecting the general public’s incredulousness at the MOE’s ham-fisted attempt at dealing with a deep-rooted problem.
One commenter suggested shouting “use your brains” at ministers next to see if it has any effect.

Unable to hide his contempt, one commenter pronounced the Education Minister to be “utterly stupid”.

This is most certainly another black mark on the Madani administration’s report card. It is a poor response to a deepening problem that is creating unwanted headlines. Judging from the comments online, many are seeing this as symptomatic of the government’s ineptitude. – Focus Malaysia
