Minister Lodges Report On Rubber Board Scandal
Both Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali and the Malaysian Rubber Board have denied the allegations that the two parcels of land were being leased or sold below market rates.PETALING JAYA: Plantation industries and commodities minister Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali has lodged a police report over allegations linking him to a land scandal.
This comes after an NGO released official letters which purportedly show that Khairuddin approved the lease of land owned by the Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) for below the market rate.
Khairuddin’s political secretary, Mohd Kamal Nazmi Kamaruddin and his press secretary Muhammad Faudzi Jalil Ah-Ahmadi lodged the report on his behalf at the Putrajaya district police headquarters today.
Kamal said the allegations were slanderous, and were the work of certain parties who wanted to damage Khairuddin’s image.
He also urged the authorities to look into the distribution of documents classified as government secrets by irresponsible parties.
“I appeal to the police as well as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate and act according to the law,” he said.
The MRB has also denied the “land scandal” allegations, stressing that no lease agreement or sale and purchase transaction has been signed with any party on the two plots of land it owns at Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
It confirmed receiving applications from several companies to buy the parcels of land at Jalan Ampang, but said the matter had yet to be decided by its board of directors.
According to the documents released by the NGO, Khairuddin was alleged to have approved the lease for Lot 20013 to Al-Noor Foundation at a price of 70 sen per sq ft, compared with the market price of RM2.50, for a period of 15+10 years with a 10% lease rate increase every five years.
The NGO also claimed that Lot 20012, with an area of 8.89 acres, was proposed to be sold to Eurowhite Sdn Bhd at a price of RM1,032.92 per sq ft, which is said to be below the market price of about RM1,400 per sq ft. - FMT
