Minister Govt Will Study Freezing Spa Licence Applications In Kl

The government will study if business licence applications for spas and massage centres should be frozen, especially in Kuala Lumpur, said Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
The minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) was quoted by Berita Harian saying they are ready to freeze applications if there is a need to do so.
However, relevant agencies will provide data on the matter before a decision is made, she added.
“As the minister responsible, we usually do that before we decide because we don’t want it to become an issue.
“And the best way is to gather all the information first,” she reportedly said at an event held at the Putrajaya Hospital today.
Zaliha’s (above) comments come after the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) froze all business licence applications for spas, traditional treatments or massages, and reflexology centres, effective today.
Johor Bahru City Council Mayor Mohd Noorazam OsmanMayor Mohd Noorazam Osman said this was to control the proliferation of businesses deemed as high-risk and sensitive.
Noorazam added that the decision reached during the Licencing Committee meeting on Jan 17 was comprehensive, and covered applications for such businesses in shop premises, hotel buildings, commercial buildings, or shopping complexes.
He said any application for a business licence which was not approved as of yesterday was given deferred status until applications are reopened, at a time to be determined by the council.
He said about 15 applications for such businesses are received by MBJB every month.
There are 151 licensed establishments of such nature in the MBJB administrative area currently, Noorazam said.
Further, he said MBJB also discovered 43 business premises that have breached licence conditions, including operating in unsuitable zones or without a licence, and all have been seized.- Mkini
