(Bernama pic) KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister Bung Moktar Radin has told DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to stay out of Sabah politics after the latter suggested that all parties allow Warisan a walkover in the Bugaya state by-election.
The Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chief said the decision to contest the Bugaya by-election, following the death of its Warisan incumbent Manis Muka Mohd Darah, lay with the respective parties in the state.
“You can tell Lim Guan Eng to let Sabah decide its own political direction,” he said, when contacted.
“Whether there is a contest or not, what’s important is that we in Sabah know best how to assess the political development on our own and how we can move it.”
Bung, who is Lamag assemblyman, said the Election Commission had 60 days to determine the date for the by-election.
“In those 60 days anything can happen … we don’t have to comment so much on Lim’s statement. He just has to take care of Penang.”

Sabah BN, Perikatan Nasional (PN) and PBS are part of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah ruling coalition that won 38 of 73 seats contested in the Sabah polls on Sept 26. The Warisan Plus coalition won 32 seats.
Lim had earlier today issued a statement calling on Chief Minister Hajiji Noor to respect the mandate of Bugaya voters in the previous state election, besides considering the public health and safety factor.
He said Hajiji, who was infected with Covid-19 previously, would know the dangers posed by the virus following the Sabah election.

“Putting the rakyat first over politics will be a good start for the new chief minister, who just recovered from Covid-19.
“Allowing Warisan to win Bugaya uncontested would prove to the people that Hajiji is committed to battling and overcoming the virus threat together with all parties,” said the Bagan MP.
Manis Muka, 65, died yesterday after being admitted to the ICU of a private hospital here. It is understood that she had been suffering from kidney problems.
In the Sabah election on Sept 26, Manis Muka defended her Bugaya seat, winning with a 6,005-vote majority against closest contender Mohd Daud Tampokong of PN in a seven-cornered fight.
