News of the postponement of the visit was first published yesterday by The Nation, a Bangkok-based English-daily online newspaper, which reported that Satya's scheduled visit to Thailand and other Southeast Asia nations has been postponed.
The report stated that the United States tech giant did not provide any reason to postponement of the visit.
Apart from Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, the report said Satya was initially scheduled to visit Jakarta too during his Southeast Asian tour from March 19-21 to attend separate AI Day events.
Microsoft Malaysia today in a statement to The Edge confirmed that Satya's first visit to Malaysia has been postponed.
The Microsoft Build AI Day in Kuala Lumpur, which Satya was supposed to attend has also been re-scheduled.
"We appreciate your understanding and we are actively working to secure a new date for the event. As soon as we have the details, we will communicate them.
"We apologise once again for any inconvenience and appreciate your continued support," the company said.
It was reported that Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz was supposed to meet Satya to devise a strategy to make Malaysia the digital hub of Asean.
Tengku Zafrul had said on X today that the 'Kekal Bersama Malaysia' initiative was collaboration between Malaysia and Microsoft to make our country the digital hub of Asean. - NST
