Mic Urges Indian Community To Join Housing Credit Guarantee Scheme
The MIC has called on the Indian community to take full advantage of the Housing Credit Guarantee Scheme announced by the government to help citizens own their first homes.
MIC president S A Vigneswaran said the scheme was especially important for the Indian community, as they often face difficulties in securing financing due to irregular income.
“The scheme offers financing of up to RM500,000, which covers the purchase cost including legal fees, valuation and mortgage insurance, with flexible eligibility for first-time home buyers, including the self-employed and gig economy workers,” he said in a statement today.
Vigneswaran said MIC would work with community leaders and party branch heads to assist community members in applications and ensure that the benefits of the government scheme reach those who qualify.
“By working together to raise awareness and facilitate access to the scheme, we can help more Indian families realise their dream of owning a home.
“MIC is committed to working closely with the government to ensure that these benefits reach the grassroots level effectively,” said Vigneswaran.
The Housing Credit Guarantee Scheme, launched in 2007 by the Housing Credit Guarantee Corporation, aims to support individuals who struggle to secure home loans.
Under Budget 2023, the scheme was strengthened with an allocation of RM5 billion and a higher financing limit of up to RM500,000.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling the 13th Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Negara today, stated that the Indian community has received assistance through various channels, including RM972 million in aid through Rahmah Cash Aid and Rahmah Basic Contribution (Sara), as well as housing guarantees worth RM2.5 billion.
