Mic S Cwc To Decide Party S Direction Says Currently Supports Pn Govt
MIC delegates today unanimously approved a motion giving mandate to the party's central work committee to make decisions in regard to GE15 including choosing to join a political coalition.
Party deputy president M Saravanan (above) proposed the motion during the party's 74th annual general meeting which ended in Klang today.
He said the motion presented was in line with the party's constitution to protect and promote the political interest, economy, education, culture and social status of the Indian community.
Saravanan stressed that MIC will not rush into making any decision on the party's stand pending a final say at the BN level.
"The mandate given today was to give the power to the CWC to decide on the party's direction in the future. We will decide our stance after the outcome of the meeting at the BN level.
MIC party president SA Vigneswaran was also present at the event.
For the record, MIC's ally in BN, Umno, has approved a motion to allow the party president and the supreme council to be given the mandate to decide on the timeline for the party's withdrawal from the Perikatan Nasional government.
The motion was approved during the Umno annual general meeting last week.

In relation to that, Vigneswaran emphasised his party's right to make any decision on political cooperation in the interests of the party and the Indian community.
"If Umno can work with Pas which is the PN component party, why can't we work with Bersatu?
"As I said before, we respect Umno's decision to cut ties with Bersatu.
"But MIC will continue to cooperate with Bersatu in the PN government before making a final decision at the BN level," he said.
Umno has decided to only support the PN government until Parliament is dissolved.
Bersatu, meanwhile, had affirmed its intention to strengthen ties with other parties in the PN coalition, including PAS, to face the next election. - Mkini
