Mic And Mca Remain Core Bn Partners Despite Overtures From Pn Zahid

UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he recently met MIC and MCA leaders several times amid speculation about the two parties’ future in BN.
Zahid confirmed that PN, including Bersatu and PAS, had approached MIC for talks but said any decision must be referred to the BN supreme council.
“We remain open to discussions, but decisions must go through the proper BN channels,” he told Mingguan Malaysia, adding that grassroots members of both parties still supported BN.
Responding to claims that MIC and MCA were sidelined in the unity government, Zahid said the two parties had declined government posts when the administration was formed.
“They are still BN’s core partners,” he said. According to him, the grassroot of the component parties do not want to leave BN.
“We also done our research, the grassroot members do not want to leave BN, but certain figures perhaps need ‘toys’, so when they no longer get ‘toys,’ then they stamp their feet on the floor,” Ahmad Zahid told Mingguan Malaysia.
He likened internal disagreements to family disputes, saying they do not undermine the coalition’s core unity. In August, MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran confirmed that the party held informal discussions with PN, following proposals from grassroots members in Kedah and Penang.
He said the talks were transparent and exploratory, stressing that MIC’s final decision would prioritise the interests of the Indian community. “Yes, there have indeed been informal discussions. We are not hiding anything. This is not a secret relationship, but an open one,” Vigneswaran said.
He acknowledged that MIC is reassessing its political direction amid perceptions of weakness but maintained that the party remains relevant due to its strong grassroots network. — Focus Malaysia
