Memo On Termination Of Foreign Workers E Quota Module Fake Says Labour Dept
A fake memo has been circulating stating that employers who want to hire foreign workers are now required to attend an interview at the human resources ministry’s One Stop Centre (OSC).PETALING JAYA: A memo claiming that the e-quota module of the Foreign Workers Centralized Management System (FWCMS) has been terminated is fake.
This was confirmed by Peninsular Malaysia labour department (JTKSM) director-general Asri Ab Rahman to FMT. “(This statement) is not real,” he said.
The memo, dated May 9 and purportedly signed by Asri, had stated that employers who wanted to hire foreign workers were now required to attend an interview at the human resources ministry’s One Stop Centre (OSC).
The fake memo also claimed that a temporary special committee had been formed by the ministry to expedite the quota application for the intake of foreign workers based on a decision made in a Cabinet meeting on April 6, where the ministry was told to speed up the foreign workers’ application process as requested by industry players.
The formation of this temporary committee, according to the fake memo, had “indirectly changed the process and involvement of JTKSM” in handling foreign worker applications through the e-quota module; and all requests for foreign worker approval would be stopped immediately.
The Star reported Asri as saying that he did not know how the fake memo got circulated as well as the motive behind its circulation.
The daily also mentioned that Asri would be issuing a statement on the matter. - FMT
